MIBC (Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol), a branched hexyl alcohol is a colourless, medium boiling, stable liquid with a mild odour. It has low solubility in water, but is miscible with many common solvents. It is used mainly as a solvent for surface coatings, as a coupling solvent for water bonded coatings and as a floatation frother. It also finds its application of the manufacture of lube additives.
